Your panels make the power
Solar on your roof powers your home first during the day. You pay a set rate for the solar power your system produces.
If Oncor delivers your power, your home in Dallas–Fort Worth, Waco, Tyler, Killeen or Midland–Odessa may qualify for solar panels and a home battery. You pay a set rate for the solar power your system produces. The battery is included and covered by tax credits and grid program payments.
Your system works for your home first, and helps the Texas grid when it needs it most.

Extra solar charges your home battery, so you have stored power ready for the evening and for outages.
Your battery joins a Texas grid program that can draw on stored power when demand peaks. Those program payments, plus tax credits, cover the battery.
Ice storms, spring hail and summer heat all put a strain on the grid. During Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, rolling outages left many North Texas homes without power in freezing temperatures.
With a home battery, your system switches on by itself when the grid goes down and keeps the essential circuits you choose running, like your fridge, lights and Wi-Fi.
Backup covers essential circuits, not the whole home. How long it lasts depends on your stored charge and what you run.
